CRITICAL MASS STILL ALIVE AND KICKING! November 30th!

HEYA FOLKS!

Let's remind cars (and onlookers) that bikes aren't just for playing with, PEOPLE ACTUALLY USE THEM TO COMMUTE IN WINTER!

Critical Mass will occur this upcoming Friday, Nov. 30th, and it's roadkill/lights themed. So get dressed up as a piece of roadkill with lights on. And even though it's dark by 6:30, because lots of people work until 6ish, Critical Mass will continue to occur at 6:30 throughout the winter.

ALSO: BRING A MIX TAPE! Mix tapes will be exchanged...it'll be loads of fun.

HOPE TO SEE YOU THERE!

I FORGOT TO ADD:

This should be as open a forum as possible, so if you would like to post something, email cecilia_sydor@hotmail.com and she will give you the password. Or, better yet, come to critical mass and ask the girl with orange hair.

Heya Reid!
Critical Mass rides will continue to occur all throughout winter, as long as people show up for them (but as added enticement, I believe hot chocolate may be brought to the december critical mass).

Here are a few tips I found online about winter riding:

Clothing:
· Layers: waterproof and breathable shell, synthetic under-layers
· Protect face, ears, hands, and feet
· Wear eye protection
· Don't overdress…you will get warm bicycling
· Don't forget your helmet!
Gear:
· Lights
· Fenders
· Keep your bike wiped down and well lubricated, store inside if possible
· Use wider tires with deeper tread. Ice tires are available, but usually not needed

Skills and Routes:
· Main roads, bus routes, and bike paths are generally cleared well and early
· Center of road is dryer where there is more traffic… you are safer where motorists can see you and where you won't fall
· Stay visible, follow traffic laws, and ride predictably

I found them on http://www.bfw.org/events/winterbiking.php

PLEASE TAKE NOTE OF: Center of road is dryer etcetcetc...You have the right to take up AS MUCH SPACE AS YOU NEED to feel safe and comfortable riding. Especially in winter, when bike lanes don't really get plowed well...

If anybody else has good winter bike tips, please share!
